NetMet: Network Performance Monitoring Tool
NetMet is a network performance monitoring tool designed to provide users with valuable insights into their network performance. With just one click, a 1-minute test offers performance metrics for the currently connected network. Users can store these measurements for comparison with past networks. NetMet supports testing for various ISP networks, including Satellite internet like Starlink, terrestrial broadband, and cellular networks.
The tool aims to empower users to investigate and troubleshoot their network performance for research purposes. Developed by the Chair of Connected Mobility at the Technical University of Munich, NetMet measures CDN and DNS metrics for users on Starlink network compared to terrestrial ISP connections. It collects web performance metrics using Cloudflare and AWS Cloudfront CDNs, capturing network metrics such as DNS lookup time, server connection time, SSL negotiation time, and more.
